Are there any online videos of defenders using Neptune? I've been training the .6 sponge version on an Andro Fibercomp and would like to observe the strategies and tactics used by other players using this great pip. It doesn't have to be a video of top pro players. I learn more from seeing amateurs closer to my ability.

Hey Pongology

I play the Neptune by myself but haven't got any video of my play. In the future I try to make a video about techniques with this cool long pips rubber.
I play close to table and push, counter, flip, block and chop with the Neptune.
Cheers, Martin

PS Do you know my video about spin reversal of many long pips rubbers? - Here it is... http://www.veoh.com/videos/v542467gHSRZhnJ

Hi Martin,

Thank you for the fast answer.

I do very well against top-spinners from mid-distance with Neptune. The opponents who give me problems are actually lower rated players who are consistent and don't use much spin, and also short pip penholders. What strategy do you use against players like these and what shots are the most effective?

Also, when you push at the table, do you use Neptune (which creates topspin) or twiddle to the inverted?

Hey Pongology

I have the same problems with players who don't stroke with much spin and speed. That's why I started attacking with the Neptune (not twiddle). I often flip a short service and attack a long and rotationless service. The main advantage of the Neptune is the variabiltiy. Against players with less spin it's often successfull to push with the Neptune. They don't like this ball because it's less speed and spin in it. Against loopers it's often good to flip and counter because it's difficult for them to estimate the spin. A flip or counter stroke on a backspin push has a bit topspin. A flip or a counter stroke on a rotationless ball has no spin and less speed. The passiv block on a hard topspin comes very flat and decreases fast. For me it's a bit difficult to chop or block against slow, higher and spinny loops. I'll try to smash this balls in the future :)

Hello Pongology,

I also play the Neptune on my backhand. My game is sometimes allround and sometimes like a modern defender, forehand loop and attack and backhand chopping and attacking. I also don't have any videos of myself playing the neptune yet, but I will take some records during the next season.
So stay tuned :-)

Cheers, Martin :)
