A dentist by profession, Panagiotis Gionis is entering the twilight of his career, though his performances would suggest otherwise. The veteran defender is known for combining a backspin play with a lethal forehand top spin, catching his opponents off guard. The Greek has competed in four Olympic Games, starting on home soil at Athens 2004, and he led the men’s national team to a remarkable silver medal at the 2013 European Championships, where he finished third in the men’s singles event. He has won twice on the Challenge series, both times at the Croatia Open in 2017 and 2018.
